Operation
The majority of the board is operated via mouse clicks.
Movement
To move a piece, click it with the mouse button. You can now see that the piece is selected. Then, click the square you would like
the piece to be moved to. If the piece doesn't move, then it is not a legal action. This does not imply that all movement is legal,
so please be familiar with the rules.
Resuming
To save a game, click the 'Load / Save' button. Copy the text that appears and paste it into a word editor (like notepad) and save the file. To load a game,
simply paste that information back into the 'Load / Save' dialog and click 'Load'.
Custom Movement
Just about everything is done for you (the King into the Tower, the back row, capturing and the special moves of the Legends) but, if there is an error
in movement, you can Open the 'Load / Save' dialog and change the coordinates (advanced).
Rules
Blue moves first.
Pawns
Knob Goblin (kg) - Moves vertically one space (two on first move), captures diagonally one space. Cannot move backwards.
Gnoll (g) - Moves diagonally up to two spaces, captures vertically one space. Cannot move backwards.
Gnome (gn) - Moves horizontally up to two spaces; captures one space forward, but may move an extra space forward if the next space is empty. Only friendly pieces can move through gnomes.
Monsters
Ninja Snowman (Ns) - Moves diagonally any distance, stays on white/green and appropriate blue.
Demoninja (De) - Moves diagonally any distance, stays on black/red and appropriate blue.
Knight in White Satin (Kn) - Moves two horizontally/vertically and one vertically/horizontally; may move over other pieces.
Knott Yeti (Ky) - Moves any distance horizontally/vertically, but only on edges and central cross. Wrap-around: can move off of edge and back onto opposite,
open square.
Vicious Gnauga (Vg) - Moves horizontally/vertically any distance.
Smarmy Viking (Sv) - Moves three horizontally/vertically and one vertically/horizontally; may move over other pieces.
Tower
The Tower (T) - Moves horizontally/vertically any distance. Three times during the game, the King can "retreat" into the tower by moving into it. The Tower cannot be
captured when the King is in it, but cannot capture other pieces either or threaten the opposing King. The King can leave the Tower on the player's next turn or the
Tower can move with the King in it, but the King MUST leave the tower on the following turn, and may take a piece in doing so. The Tower count does not reset if you
get a new Tower. Cannot capture the Princess.
- Turn X: move King into Tower
- Turn X+1:
- move the Tower, including the King
- let the King exit the tower and in doing so he may take a piece during the exit move
- do something else
- Turn X+2 : unless you took option (2) last turn, you have to let the King exit now (in which case he can take a piece during his exit move)
Legends
Sneaky Pete (SP) - Moves in any straight line up to seven spaces OR if on a green square, may change places with any friendly Pawn or Monster also on a green square
within four spaces in a direct line from Sneaky Pete.
Boris (B) - Moves horizontally/vertically any distance; can take two adjacent pieces if one is on a red square within four spaces and both are in its line of
movement. When using his special move, Boris ends on the farther of the two pieces taken.
Jarlsberg (J) - Moves diagonally any distance OR teleports from a blue square to any open blue square in a direct horizontal/vertical line.
Royals
King (K) - Can move one space in any direction. If threatened directly with capture ("in check"), the player must move to take the King out of danger, either by
capturing the offending piece, blocking it with another, or moving the King. The King cannot move into check.
Princess (P) - Can move up to four spaces in any one direction; can only be captured by a Royal, Legends, or Monsters; cannot capture pawns.
The Back Row
Knob Goblins and Gnolls which reach the back row may be traded for either a Monster or, if the appropriate piece has been removed previously, the Princess or Tower.
Gnomes which reach the back row may be traded for ANY piece except the King. However, a player may only have one each of the Tower, Princess, and Legends on the board at a time.
Winning
Victory is gained either by capturing all three of your opponent's Legends or by placing their King in a situation where they are in check both at the moment and
whatever move the opposing player makes.
